    • Garden Guardian

      • Our Guardians take care of our Gardens.
      • Garden Guardians maintain the greenhouses, the grounds, and care for all of our plants.
      • Our Guardians also collect and propagate plants for the purpose of providing inventory for our plant sales.
      • Garden Guardians conduct gardening sessions on Mondays, form 9 am to noon, year around, and on the third Saturday of every month, also from 9 am to noon.
      • Anyone with an interest in Succulent Plants is eligible to become a Garden Guardian.

    • President

      • Prepare the agenda and preside at all Society meetings.
      • Appoint all standing and special committees, with the exception of the nominating committee.

    • Vice-President

      • Perform the duties of the President when the President is unable to do so.
      • Serve as, or appoint, the Programs Chair.

    • Recording Secretary

      • Take minutes of regular and special meetings.
      • Provide minutes to the membership and maintain copies on file.
      • Receive and maintain all membership information from the Membership Chair.
      • Receive and maintain copies of all Treasurer reports.
      • Receive and maintain copies of all Committee reports.
      • Deliver to the Historian all old records that are no longer needed for current operations.

    • Corresponding Secretary

      • Respond to all inquiries received by the SSS via US Postal, Internet, or Telephone.
      • Research the topics of inquiries as needed in order to respond fully to all inquiries.
      • Produce and send thoughtful well-wishes to members experiencing difficult times.
      • Produce and send congratulatory correspondence to members experiencing milestones.
      • Maintain informal communications with current and past scholarship recipients.
      • Manage the Society's electronic social media presence. (Delegating as needed.)
      • Coordinate electronic social media efforts with the society's webmaster.

    • Treasurer

      • Deposit the Society's revenue and pay the Society's bills, subject to the guidance and oversight of the Executive Board.
      • Prepare local, state, and federal reports and send fees that accompany these reports.
      • Maintain paid-up property and liability insurance policies with coverage and terms approved by the Executive Board.
      • Procure items needed for the house and grounds.
      • Renew memberships with allied organizations.
      • Renew subscriptions.
      • Prepare fiscal reports and present them at membership meetings. 
      • Prepare quarterly Endowment Fund and CD reports.
      • Manage the Society's stocks and certificates of deposit, in accordance with the instructions of the Executive Board. 
      • Prepare an annual budget and end of year report.
      • Maintain comprehensive financial records for periodic and routine audit.

    • Horticulturist

      • Promote efforts to maintain the overall health and welfare of the Society’s plant collections.
      • Supervise activities relating to the physical maintenance, propagation, and identification of the Society’s plants.

    • Curator - Display Greenhouse

      • Maintain the Society's collection of plants in the Display Greenhouse.
      • Maintain the plants that are in containers or in the ground immediately adjacent to the Display Greenhouse.
      • Coordinate Display Greenhouse horticultural activities with the advice and guidance of the Horticulturalist.
      • Inform the Facilities Manager when the greenhouse itself or the tables and benches within the greenhouse need repair.

    • Curator - Cactus Greenhouse

      • Maintain the Society's collection of plants in the Cactus Greenhouse.
      • Maintain the plants that are in containers or in the ground immediately adjacent to the Cactus Greenhouse.
      • Coordinate Cactus Greenhouse horticultural activities with the advice and guidance of the Horticulturalist.
      • Inform the Facilities Manager when the greenhouse itself or the tables and benches within the greenhouse need repair.

    • Curator - Potting and Sales

      • Maintain the Potting Shed and Sales areas.
      • Oversee the propagation, growing, potting, and repotting of plants for sale.
      • Oversee the labeling and pricing of plants for sale.
      • Working with the Treasurer, budget for and purchase Potting Shed supplies as needed.
      • Coordinate Potting Shed horticultural activities with the advice and guidance of the Horticulturalist.
      • Inform the Facilities Manager when the Potting Shed itself or the tables and benches in the Sales area need repair.

    • Curator - Beds and Trees

      • Oversee the regular maintenance of the Society's planting beds and trees.
      • Oversee the assignment and coordination of volunteers to perform specific planting and/or maintenance activities within specified beds.
      • Promote the identification and labeling of all plants in the beds.
      • Coordinate all Beds and Trees activities with the advice and guidance of the Horticulturalist.
      • Oversee periodic and minor tree trimming performed by member volunteers.
      • Solicit bids, schedule, and supervise contracted tree work.

    • Curator - Common Areas

      • Oversee the regular maintenance of the lawns, pathways, patios, and other open exterior areas within the Gardens.
      • Oversee the regular maintenance of the public right-of-ways that lie between the Society's property and the pavement of the surrounding streets.
      • Oversee the storage and maintenance of the Society's landscape maintenance tools.
      • Inform the Facilities Manager if the tools storage shed needs repairs.
      • Inform the Facilities Manager if arbors, fences, or gates need repair.
      • Provide and maintain litter collection containers throughout the gardens.
      • Manage the storage of litter and landscape trash, and facilitate its removal by municipal trash collectors.

    • Facilities Manager

      • Oversee the interior and exterior maintenance of all the structures in the Gardens.
      • Oversee the maintenance of all the arbors, fences, and gates in the Gardens.
      • Oversee the installation and maintenance of all exterior signage.
      • Manage the specification, bidding, and supervision of contracted facilities work.

    • Membership Chair

      • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date, and complete list of the current membership.
      • Develop and implement initiatives to increase membership in the Society.
      • Send membership card, letter of welcome, and yearbook to new members.
      • Send name, address, and other new member information to secretary, treasurer, webmaster, and yearbook editor.
      • Collect annual dues from active, associate and household members and send them their membership cards.
      • Collect Life  Membership  payments.
      • Give collected monies to the Treasurer.

    • Programs Chair

      • Obtain speakers for Oct, Nov, Jan, Feb, Mar, April & June membership meetings.
      • Obtain speakers for Labor Day, Memorial Day, and President’s Day Open Gardens days.
      • Send dates and speakers to Yearbook Chair by June 30.

    • Publicity Chair

      • Send meeting information and Open Garden Days information to local publications and local garden clubs.
      • Send Open Gardens info to Florida Gardening Magazine and the Cactus & Succulent  Journal.
      • Send info and pictures of special functions (eg. scholarship winners) to local  newspapers.

    • Scholarship Committee Chair

      • Coordinate scholarship info with local colleges, directing them to the SSS Website for information and the application form.
      • With committee members, review applicants and select recipients.
      • Notify students, arrange for them to attend the May meeting for recognition.
      • Prepare certificates to be presented at the May meeting.
      • Give names, student numbers, scholarship amounts, and names of colleges to Treasurer for payment to the colleges in June.

      • Give tours of the Succulent Society's Gardens.

      • Present programs about Succulents and the Society to other groups and organizations.

    • The 'Water Miser' Newsletter Editor

      • Publish three 'Water Miser' newsletters each year: Winter, Spring, and Summer/Fall.
      • Gather enough SSS news, photos, graphics, and useful information to fill a mimimum of 2 pages for each issue.
      • Layout and typeset each issue according to a traditional framework and style.
      • Produce the newsletter electonically, in web-ready 'PDF' format, and send it to the webmaster for publication online.
    • Currently Filled.
    • Librarian

      • Maintain the Society's collection of printed and electronic media.
      • Maintain a card file (or electonic equivalent) inventory of library materials.
      • Maintain an adequate system of checkout and return.
      • Promote existing and newly available publications to the membership.

    • Historian

      • Receive minutes and reports from the Recording Secretary.
      • Receive artifacts of correspondence from the Corresponding Secretary.
      • Receive from the Publicity Chair all copies of ads, press releases, and any other kind of publicity mentioning the Society.
      • Receive detailed records of scholarship grants from the Scholarships Chair.
      • Receive copies of the annual Yearbook from the Yearbook Chair.
      • Regularly print and catalog copies of the Society's electronic publications, including monthly newsletters, the Water Miser, and website content.
      • Collect and catalog incidental records and paraphenlia from special succulent society events.
      • Collect photographs of programs, events, people, and the gardens. Inscribe each with the date taken and details about the subject matter, such as name(s), location, etc.
      • Organize all materials in accordance with the instruction of the Society's Archivist.

    • Archivist

      • Periodically receive cataloged materials from the Historian.
      • Organize, box, and label all material according to guidance received from the Sarasota County History Center.
      • Deliver materials to be archived to the Sarasota County History Center.
      • Instruct volunteers on how to convert the submitted materials into archival grade copies, using the History Center's archival grade paper products and copying equipment.
      • Negotiate payment to the History Center for supplies consumed and the use of equipment.
      • All archival grade copies produced will become the property of, and remain at, the History Center.
      • Recover the original materials that have been copied into the History Center's archive and return them to a fire and theft protected area of the Society's clubhouse.

    • Yearbook Chair

      • Receive current membership information from the Membership Chair.
      • Revise the master yearbook to reflect the current membership.
      • Receive updated Speaker and Program information from the Programs Chair.
      • Update the committees list in the master yearbook.
      • Coordinate the printing of the yearbook with a commercial printer.
      • Mail yearbooks to all members and allied groups.

    • Webmaster

      • Maintain and regularly update the Society's website.
      • Administer the Society's email accounts.
      • Maintain accurate and complete records of website and email login credentials.
      • Manage and publish the Society's electronic (HTML) monthly newsletter. (Content will be provided by others.)
      • Make sure annual fees for domain names and web hosting services are paid on time.
