You are here:  Scholarships

Our Scholarship Program is for local senior high school students enrolled in college or students enrolled in a local college. It is for students primarily interested in botany and related disciplines.

We currently offer these scholarships:

  • The Phyllis Turner Environmental Scholarship - $1,000.00
  • The Succulent Society Scholarship - $1,000.00

Applicants are asked to submit one single application without regard to a specific scholarship. The Society will match each winning applicant with one or more of the scholarships offered.

Applicants must answer three questions (no more than 400 words each):

  • What are your college and career goals?
  • What are your personal and extra-curricular activities in areas related to the field of botany?
  • What is the most valuable knowledge and/or experience you’ve gained from work related to botany?

Applicants must also provide two references, a written recommendation from a teacher/professor of the school in which they are currently enrolled, and a copy of their most recent transcript.

Completed applications must be submitted to the Sarasota Succulent Society, 1310 38th Street, Sarasota, Florida, 34234-4604, no later than April 10th.

The Board of Officers of the Sarasota Succulent Society will meet on or about April 10 to discuss all applicant qualifications and decide to whom the scholarship(s) will be awarded. The award will be sent directly to the college or university named on the application for tuition, fees, and/or textbooks.

The award winning student(s) will be informed as soon as the Board makes its decision, typically no later than April 15th. The winner(s) will be honored in person as part of a public program we will present in our Gardens during our annual Mothers Day Weekend Sale, an event we always hold in May on the Saturday immediately preceding Mothers Day.
